Local Community & Charity
Cambridge House and guests support the local community and several charities in many ways. We like to help the local community as much as possible either by fund raising or having collecting tins and boxes in reception.
Reeth & District Community Transport or 'Reeth Yellow Buses'!
Selling our home made award winning marmalade and our book exchange for guests have helped raise over £400.00 since June 2016 to support the 'yellow buses' which provide transport for those who don't have their own means of getting out and about; residents are taken on shopping trips, days out or for hospital appointments and are a vital means of transport. We also keep a 'Save our Bus' loose change box in reception!
Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Great North Air Ambulance
In addition to the collection boxes, we fill vacuum flasks for guests for a donation to one of the local charities. Our guests are very generous and have helped raise over £200.00. I think they see it as an insurance policy just in case they are needed someday!
Swaledale Mountain Rescue
We've raised over £200.00 for Swaledale Mountain Rescue; in February 2018 'Moon Watch Reeth', an event we organised as part of the Dales Dark Skies Festival 2018, raised nearly £50.00. Our 'Thermos' flask scheme also helps the rescue team as well as lots of loose change donations.
More charities and organisations.....
Cambridge House supports the annual Swaledale Festival not only by a financial contribution but also on our web site and through social media.
Cambridge House is a Friend of Swaledale Museum
Cambridge House is a business member of the Yorkshire Dales Society which works to protect and safeguard the Dales and campaigns for positive improvement so that everyone can enjoy the beauty and facilities of the Yorkshire Dales.
Other charities which benefit from our support include:
R.S.P.B. we sell pin badges, very popular with overseas visitors.
Blue Cross Animal Charity: we make a monthly donation to the Blue Cross and sell their raffle tickets.
Ashbourne Animal Welfare, Ashbourne, Derbyshire: we've been supporters for many years as we previously lived near Ashbourne but we were so pleased when they allowed us to adopt Peggy our rescue Poodle x Golden Retriever who was handed in at 9weeks old, 3.00 p.m. on Christmas Eve 2015.
Bransby Home of Rest for Horses, Lincoln: as a lifelong horse and pony lover and previous owner of several, we've supported Bransby Horses for over twenty years through adoption, raffles, donations and by collecting stamps as part of their 'Stamps for Horses' campaign.
